CAPRISA STATEMENT ON XENOPHOBIA AND THE PLANNED ANTI-IMMIGRANT, JUNE 30TH 2026 PROTESTS
STATEMENT ON XENOPHOBIA AND THE PLANNED ANTI-IMMIGRANT 30TH JUNE 2026 PROTESTS
29 June 2026
The Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) issues this statement in defense of human dignity and the rule of law. As a leading South African medical research institution with collaborative partnerships across the African continent and globally, we condemn those inciting xenophobic fearmongering and engaged in mob violence against immigrants. Concurrently, we recognise the South African government’s right to enforce its immigration policies, through mandated state agencies, in keeping with the law. Xenophobia, vigilantism and harassment of people, including for identity documents, have no place in any society that aspires to be governed by law and dignity.
