Dr. Thembisile Xulu is a Certified Director with the Institute of Directors of Southern Africa (IoDSA). She holds an MBChB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a Diploma in Obstetrics and a Diploma in HIV Management, both from the Colleges of Medicine of Southern Africa, and Masters of Public Health (Health Policy and Health Management) from the University of Witwatersrand.

She is the current CEO of SANAC and Chairperson of the SA Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (SA GF CCM). Dr Xulu is also a 2010 Yale University World Fellow. She serves as a governance official as a Communications Focal Point (CFP) for the Eastern and Southern Africa Constituency on the Global Fund Board.

As an esteemed leader in public health, Dr. Xulu brings expertise and a wealth of experience as the previous Chief of Party of the EQUIP Consortium – the first fully African-led consortium of partners which Dr. Xulu led under Right to Care. The consortium focused on the rapid scale- up of innovative HIV treatment and prevention strategies to achieve the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets in more than ten PEPFAR-funded countries. She has held key leadership roles in for- profit as well as non-profit entities, driving significant advancements in HIV, TB and STIs prevention, treatment, care and support across Africa, South East Asia, Eastern Europe, Indonesia and The Caribbean.

She has previously served on the Boards of AIDS Foundation South Africa, Right to Care and the Alexander Forbes Community Trust. She currently serves as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of ASI Financial Services and on the Scientific Advisory Board of CAPRISA.
