Dr Nireshni

Dr. Nireshni Mitchev is a Scientist at the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA), where she leads the Molecular Biology Laboratory. She obtained her Master's and PhD in Medical Microbiology through the CAPRISA Fellowship Programme. Her expertise spans sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, and diagnostic microbiology, with a particular interest in translating molecular and genomic research into solutions that improve public health. Dr. Mitchev is the recipient of the prestigious L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Postdoctoral Award and contributed to South Africa's National Strategic Plan for HIV, Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Infections (2023–2028). She is passionate about fostering the next generation of scientists through collaborative research and mentorship.
