Professor Quarraisha Abdool Karim FRS elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society

Professor Quarraisha Abdool Karim FRS has been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society, the world’s oldest scientific academy. Formed in 1660, the Royal Society is a fellowship of the world's most eminent scientists. Abdool Karim joins the ranks of Stephen Hawking, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein, who have been Fellows during the Society’s illustrious history.

President of the Royal Society Sir Adrian Smith said of the 2025 Fellows, “Their achievements represent the very best of scientific endeavour, from basic discovery to research with real-world impact across health, technology and policy. From tackling global health challenges to reimagining what AI can do for humanity, their work is a testament to the power of curiosity-driven research and innovation.”
