CAPRISA CRP selected to attend World Health Assembly
Mr Mohamed Hoosen Suleman, a 4th year medical student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal was selected as one of three medical students globally for the Youth Changemaker Scholarship to attend both the Pre-World Health Assembly (PreWHA) and the World Health Assembly (WHA) from 17 to 29 May held in Geneva. Suleman, who is on the CAPRISA Clinical Research Placement programme (CRP) is mentored by Prof Quarraisha Abdool Karim, CAPRISA’s Associate Scientific Director. At the Assembly, Suleman had an opportunity to meet with WHO Director General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus at the ‘Walk the Talk’ event and South Africa’s Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla at the Palais Des Nations. The CRP is a research placement programme for medical students to develop skills and expertise in a research environment. The 2022 orientation for medical students who want to become CRPs was held on 10th June.
