Katherine Stuart, BCom (Cur) Hons

Katherine Stuart, BCom (Cur) Hons, has been working in the medical and computer field designing and implementing software since completing her BSc in Computer Science and Economics (1998) and Honours degree (1999). Following on from her Honours dissertation on the Impact of HIV/AIDS on a South African firm, she joined a software company to design medical record software for tracking patients in company clinics.

This involved, designing the software, implementing it and providing onsite training at numerous companies and factories in KwaZulu Natal. She joined CAPRISA as a trainee data manager in 2004 with responsibilities of following the Senior Data Manager.s (Irene van Middlekoop.s) direction in study data management processes and started her training in the Acute Infection study.

In September 2004 she went for DataFax training to Canada and advanced her study setup skills which she used on her return to train other members of the Data Management team and help with the setup of other CAPRISA studies.

In May 2005 she was promoted to Data Manager in CAPRISA with the responsibility of all clinical data-related aspects of the Acute Infection study (and the START study) being undertaken by CAPRISA. In addition, she has developed the software used in all studies at CAPRISA for patient tracking and continues to provide input on the setup of other CAPRISA studies.
