Gavin Churchyard, MBChB, MMED (Internal Medicine), FCP (SA), PhD is a specialist physician, internationally-renowned
for his contributions in tuberculosis (TB). He is the Chief Executive Officer of Aurum Health Research, an independent
industry-based health research unit and a Honorary Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, School of Clinical
Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Honorary Associate Professor at the University
of Cape Town, School of Public Health and Family Medicine and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the London School of Hygiene
and Tropical medicine. |

Prof. Churchyard is the principal investigator on a number of industry-based studies focusing on
TB, HIV and occupational lung disease. He is a member of the executive committee of the International Consortium to
Respond Effectively to the AIDS / TB Epidemic (CREATE), funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He serves on
the executive committee of the NIH funded Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) and on
the South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative senior investigators committee. He is a member of the South African Tuberculosis
Trials Consortium and has consulted for the World Health Organisation and UNAIDS on TB and cotrimoxazole preventive
therapy for HIV infected individuals. He has contributed to industry, national and international guidelines for TB
preventive therapy.
