| Francine McCutchan, PhD, is Chief of the Global Molecular Epidemiology Program at the
Henry M. Jackson Foundation, a component of the US Military HIV Research Program. She is well known for her work

In addition, she has contributed substantially to the database of HIV sequences, and has
gathered data on the global distribution of HIV subtypes. Inter-subtype recombinant HIV, now known to represent some
of the most important strains in the pandemic were initially identified, and continue to be studied intensively, by
her program.
