| Ahmed Azad, PhD, is a biochemist and molecular biologist, currently serving as the Director
of Research of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Cape Town. He is also Professor of Medical Biotechnology
at the University of Cape Town. He is amongst others a member of the Council of Scientific Advisors, International Centre
for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Trieste). He has been the principal investigator on various grants, amongst
others for the development of IBDV vaccine, the expression of HIV regulatory proteins, and the function and structure
determination of HIV-1 auxiliary proteins.

He has been a research manager for the R&D Syndicate investigating the HIV Nef protein,
was the Deputy Program Leader for an applied protein and gene technology/molecular structure and disease control project
and the Program Manager for a virus replication and assembly project. He is widely published and has seven patents.
