Elizabeth
Adams, MD is the Medical Officer from the Division of AIDS (DAIDS)
working with the CAPRISA START study team. She has been at the DAIDS,
National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the US
National Institutes of Health (NIH) for over 7 years where she has
provided direct medical oversight and scientific direction for 30 plus
active clinical studies pertaining to the pathogenesis and treatment of
HIV infection. Prior to joining the Division of AIDS, her background
has been in immunology, rheumatology and bench-to-bedside studies
performed during her 5 year senior staff fellowship within intramural
NIH.
Elizabeth Adams has provided assistance on the evaluation of
immunotherapies for HIV and of antiretroviral products in phase I/II
studies by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) and various US-funded
R01 and U01 investigators; and within DAIDS Dr. Adams coordinated the
multiple logistical aspects for study implementation of ACTG A5175,
DAIDS first large (four continents) collaborative treatment study
evaluating antiretroviral regimens for resource limited settings. In
addition, over the past seven years Dr. Adams provided scientific
guidance and Medical Officer and Regulatory oversight for the
collaborative studies performed by the HIV-1 Acute Infection and Early
Disease Program funded by DAIDS.
Dr. Adams is also Staff Rheumatologist at the US National Naval Medical
Center, where she continues to see Rheumatology patients on a weekly
basis
